Venue: Sun Tzu Art of War Institute, 100 Orchard Road
Welcome to CMS 2011 at Singapore!
The conference will be held at the global city, Singapore. Singapore is a bustling cosmopolitan city that offers a world-class living environment, with her landscape populated by high-rise buildings and gardens. One interesting facet you’ll discover about Singapore is a ubiquitous collage of cultures, where people of different ethnicities and beliefs co-exist.
With the rapid rise of China, the world is recognizing the making of a new discipline: Chinese management (中华管理). As China moves to centre stage in global economics, there is a greater urgency for rigorous, scholarly papers on Chinese management. In addition to empirical work, there is a need for research that clearly demonstrates how timeless Chinese values, beliefs, philosophy, culture and ethos are integrated into the practice of Chinese management. This is what makes Chinese Management Studies so unique as a leading journal (2010,SSCI).
Few in the West realize there is much more than just Confucianism when it comes to Chinese managerial thinking. For example, Chinese strategists may acquire deep strategic thinking from studying the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, or get a sense of network building through studying the classic All Men are Brothers. When coping with change, there is no better text than the I Ching. Some of the fundamental Chinese business practices were minted some 5,000 years ago - currently the most popularly known in the west is Sun Tzu’s Art of War.
We look forward to see you in Singapore and await your new insights for management.
